Collections

In order to promote the study of the History of Hispanic Art, one of the aims of the Institut Amatller d’Art Hispànic, the new entity was equipped with a specialised library and a photo library. The latter’s collection was initially made up of copies of positives on 18×24 cm paper of the negatives from Gudiol’s own archive and also of the 122,000 negatives from the Mas Archive, acquired by Teresa Amatller for her foundation in the same year of 1941.

From the outset, the Institut Amatller maintained its desire to increase its image banks. In order to do so, it promoted specific photography campaigns (the first systematic and exhaustive of the works of the Prado Museum stands out) and acquired other collections.
